The design process in creating a window is often the most challenging part of a commission, marrying the aspirations of the client with Helen’s own style and understanding of the medium. It is essential to agree the budget and to iron out any practical considerations at an early stage as these will affect the design for example, Health and Safety, Building Regulations and any Conservation requirements.
Once you are satisfied that the style and quality of Helen’s work suites your requirements and a budget is agreed, work will begin on the design. It is usual for a non-returnable design fee of around 10% of the proposed budget to be charged in advance in recognition of the work involved in this important phase. This is deducted from the final bill assuming that the commission proceeds to completion.
A scale watercolour sketch will be produced alongside samples of the glass to be used. This will give you an accurate representation of the finished work although Helen reserves the right to use artistic discretion in small detail.
